Drumlord Win Prestigious Award

14th December 2011

Drumlord were delighted to win one of the seven fiercely contested categories at the 2011 Caerphilly Business Forum Awards held at Llancaiach Fawr.  In front of almost 230 guests at the 10th anniversary of the Caerphilly Business Forum Awards, Drumlord scooped the Business of the Year Award (25 employees or fewer) at the ceremony hosted by TV presenter and journalist Jason Mohammad.

The award for Best Business, sponsored by Caerphilly County Borough Council, was presented to Drumlord's, Managing Director, Rob Aldridge, Financial Director Alison Griffiths and Sales and Marketing Manager Christopher McCarthy by the leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council Cllr Allan Pritchard.

The award is in recognition of the huge steps Drumlord have taken over the past year and is a fitting way to celebrate 30 years in business.  Chris commented, “It’s a huge honour for the company to win such a prestigious award and we were delighted to succeed in such a strong field of candidates.  The Caerphilly Business Forum is a tremendous organisation and works hard to promote the interests of local businesses.  It was heartening to see so many vibrant companies together in one room!

“The award recognises so much more than sales growth; the fact we have seen an increase in sales of over 50% compared to last year is only a small part of the story.  In the past year Drumlord have increased their customer base by 25% (50% in 3 years), grown substantially in the Medical sector, increased Vacuum Casting throughput by 97% and managed to invest in a number of areas of the business including Vacuum Casting and Spray Painting. These capacity increases will allow us to more easily cope with the general ‘peak and trough’ nature of our business. Having the facility to allow us to be able to focus more manpower resource into these critical areas at times of high demand will allow us to win more business, retain more business in house and better service our customers’ challenging timescale schedules. In the case of the Spray Booth, there will also be a 50% increase in size capabilities allowing us to spray larger products we have thus far been unable to take on. The onsite paint mixing facility will also help speed up turn around times, and more accurately colour match to customer requirements.”

Drumlord Managing Director, Rob Aldridge, was thrilled to receive the award and immediately highlighted Drumlord’s staff as deserving of praise.  “Credit should go to every employee at Drumlord”, commented Rob.  “We are a small company and our success is in no small measure due to our skilled and committed workforce.  When extra hours or weekends are required to meet deadlines there is always a positive response from the employees.  Production problems are met with ideas and innovative solutions, and no product leaves until it meets the stringent standards each member of staff has.  Our achievements are built on maintaining high-quality products, at the right price and to time and this is possible because of our staff.”

Caerphilly Business Forum Chair Andrew Diplock said it was fitting that the competition this year had been tougher than ever: "It is the 10th anniversary of our awards which is quite an achievement in itself. They've continued to go from strength to strength, resulting in this landmark year, in such a diverse and strong entry. The shortlists themselves were truly formidable so the eventual winners have really earned it. Our thanks go to all the judges for the sterling work they've put in to get us here and also to the sponsors who continue to enable this event and the forum itself to flourish.

"Looking at themes running through the awards this year it's clear to see determination and commitment combined with creativity are the hallmarks which have helped these businesses to succeed. I know our winners this year will be a real inspiration to others and I hope that by being active in Caerphilly Business Forum they can help others learn from their success."
