The Challenge
Mat created a life-sized animatronic Stag which moves depending on the live interaction with selected individuals on Twitter. A confluence of art, engineering and artificial intelligence, the stag required a full skeleton, including antlers, which was light enough to be supported and robust enough to move as required.

The Process
We reviewed the brief with Mat and quickly established the following essential requirements:

• Strong enough to withstand assembly, loading and dynamic movement
• Lightweight
• Accurate (parts formed a complex, tight assembly)
• Good surface finish

SLA was the obvious choice and with a range of materials to choose from we selected Somos Watershed XC11122 resin. Even when hollowed to 2.0mm wall thickness Watershed SLA resin provided ample strength for the application combined with a great surface quality for reduced finishing times.

With timelines short SLA build times meant we could supply accurate parts quickly enough to allow for full finishing and assembly in time for the exhibition.
The Result

Strong, lightweight replica bones that combined to form an incredible centrepiece to the 2023 All Things Fall exhibition.
